Summer

So I went to Jon Foreman's website today and found that his last EP, Summer, is almost ready...he already has previews of songs available for listening...But I read his little entry on his page:

"When the long, golden shadows of sunset stretch further and further. When our skin is dry and salty and brown and red. When the wind gently blows the sand along the pacific's edge, from the dead, brown lands into the bright blues.

This is the final season for the yearly journey I've been on. Summer, (for me) is bitter sweet..."

Summer was like that for me as well, mostly because of school. I would be looking forward to summer: the beach trips, D-land trips, volleyball games, hanging out with friends, etc. But once those last few weeks or days crept on the end of my vacation, it would start to be depressing. I'd be forced to begin thinking about registering, class schedules, school supplies.

Tomorrow (to me) is the first day of summer*, I don't want to think about fall right now. I want to be swept up in the season of sun...if Salinas ever allows the sun to break through the clouds.

*The actual first day of summer, this year, is June 20th...it is supposed to be the day that the sun is farthest north.

Listen Up, Relient K Fans!

Blunder-ful!

We are having a car wash fund-raiser for the middle school students tomorrow at 7-11 and so yesterday I made a flyer for the students and a handout for the people who will come tomorrow to get their cars washed. The flyer went fine. Looks like this...
And then I made the handouts...all went well...printed 'em, made copies, cut 'em...then I noticed that the genius web-master that I am put the wrong web address at the bottom...it is supposed to be "SVCC.net"...not ".com"....wonderful.

It's been too long...

Since I've talked about jazz...

I love this song; it's called Take Five by Dave Brubeck...just simply amazing.

I found this because of Rob's Links.

Sabbath...sorta

  • Went to band practice for this weekend's service in the morning.
    • I broke a string...it happens to be tuned to G.
    • Got a chance to sing...usually I just play.
    • We were missing some band members, but I'm all will go well.
  • Got home and saw our neighbor outside playing some B-Ball.
    • He is in middle school, and his name is Mac.
    • We played 21 and Horse.
    • It was fun.
  • Went to Wise Music Inc. downtown and picked up a pack of Elixirs.
    • Tried out the (Acoustic) Nanoweb Custom Light
    • Took old strings off...Wiped the baby down...re-strung.
    • Angelic melodies arose from thy Taylor.
  • Watched 2 movies.
    • P.S. I Love You (borrowed)
    • Final Approach (on T.V. with parents)
  • Played with mi perro.

That's it...how was your Sabbath!?

Open Mic Night

Oh yes! Ladies and Gentlemen, the FIX community proudly presents its
Annual Open Mic/Talent Share Night! Oh the mayhem!!! (How many exclamation points can I put in this post!!!) I will be the host of the night and will also be demonstrating several talents I have...including ear-wiggling.
I will try to get pictures up after the show!

Tonight's the Night!

This guy better rock the house, so he can win tomorrow!

My First Day...

...as a Middle School Intern was today! I attended our church's staff prayer meeting where we take out all of the prayer request sheets that you can place in the offering each week if you want prayer for something...it was pretty cool. I felt like such a noob and young ’un...and Jerry, our senior pastor, paid me a compliment and insult at the same time...that takes skill. All in all, it was a pretty good first day in the office. I'm looking forward to the rest of the summer!

Band Update

Death Cab For Cutie just recently released their new album, Narrow Stairs, which I pre-ordered...it's pretty good. A lot of songs. It's interesting to see the change in style from Transatlanticism to this new album, although I guess change wouldn't be the word, because their are still songs with that electronic/alternative mix in it...they seem to adapt a broader style I guess you could say...

Coldplay has recently made Viva La Vida, which will be released in June...and I am really looking forward to this one...I can't think of a bad album that Coldplay has made. I have heard two songs from the album...Viva La Vida & Violet Hill...both sounded promising.

The Fray is, according to their website & myspace, in the studio, and I am looking forward to see what they conjure up because "How to Save a Life," was pretty much their first full-length album (with the exception of an EP and X-mas single).

mewithoutYou just posted on their blog that they scheduled some studio time in August for their new album...I am looking forward to that, and I guess they lost a member of their band. That leaves them with one less guitarist (4 members total). I hope it all turns out okay.

That seems to be everything I know right now...I'll try and find out more as time goes on.

O The Times, They Are Uh-Changin'

The Shows:
  1. No More Office...the season finale was last night
  2. American Idol Season Finale Next Week
Summer Plans:
  1. Internship starting next week with John Paul and FIX Ministry
  2. Last few meetings with my college bible study
  3. Hopefully start a college-age community group (small group)
  4. Continue working on the website
  5. Reading the whole bible (I hope)
  6. Watch plenty of movies
Well, I can't think of anything else right now, but that seems to sum up my plans for this summer...something that all the middle school leaders and myself have been trying to keep in mind is a verse out of Proverbs:

“Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails.” Proverbs 19:21

Mi Familia

The Rodriguez family visited us earlier this week...and it was good.

It was really good to see Mike and Holly again, and on top of that being able to meet Audrigo! Amazing! We got to eat at our favorite seafood joint, show them the church facility, play guitar, talk, and other stuff...it was awesome. I was very sad to see them go, but I know I will see 'em again...hopefully sooner rather than later. Love all of you!

The Weepies

I found these guys the other day and thought they were pretty good. They have a free mp3 available at their site, "Hideaway."

Got a lotta work to do...

Our church's website went live this week. That means I gotta hurry up and finish the website...so many pages to do, ahhhhh!!!

Today I redid the Middle School Home Page...here is a preview:

Cinemicah!

I have a few movies to watch...

Starbucks Sojourn

Today, my mother and I paid a visit to the new Starbucks downtown (some of her former partners transferred down there). It was pretty cool, but I like it when they are smaller and have a more "homey" feeling with comfy chairs and such. This one was pretty open and spacious, but it still was pleasing to the eye. I enjoyed the usual: Grande Caramel Macciato Upside-Down w/ whip, along with a chocolate old-fashioned donut...mmm, scrumptious! Thanks Mom!

I won't have to see this for a long while...

(My First Year Seminar Class)
I had my last class meeting yesterday for this class...YAY!

Bradley Hathaway

So this guy is finally on iTunes with his album, "The Thing That Poets Write About the Thing That Singers Sing About." I heard him first at LIFE 2007 and he was good at bustin' out lyrics...an amazing poet. Anyways, you should go check him out! One of my fav's of his is, "So Do I Love You."

P.S. Sorry, no song to listen to this time.

Viva La Vida!

Coldplay has released a free download of a song from their upcoming album, "Viva La Vida."
The song is called, "Violet Hill," and is available for download from their website. I listened to it just now and really liked it, especially the ending. Give a listen:

The Nicest Yard I've Ever Seen...
