She never saw it coming...

My dog Katie has been progressively getting more playful with me...so I thought I would take it to the next level.

The 11th Hour

The 11th Hour is a movie that just came out that Leonardo DiCaprio made. It is about Humanity's footprint on this Earth and how we have so many people consuming so much at a rapid pace. However, the focus of the movie is not about imminent death or the doom of the earth, but rather the hope for humanity and the action that we can easily take each day to clean up and restore the planet. Here is a trailer for the movie:

No wonder people are afraid of Christians...

Why do Christians' insist on putting the cross or a verse on everything? I bring this up not to discourage, but only to focus people back onto love. We just got two new packages to put out in the store at work today. The first was a pack of red Swiss army knives with crosses on them, and the second package was of pocket knives with 2.5 inch stainless steal blades. It had a cross on it as well and a verse on the blade, 1 Corinthians 1:18. It read, "18For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.".........One would think that they would put maybe a verse about craftsmanship or carpentry (some sort of creation aspect), but they decide to show how people who don't know the Lord are going to "perish". Great topic to bring up if someone asks, "What's that on your knife?"
Sorry if this post seems harsh, and I am sure that is not what they were thinking when making these knives. It just frustrates me when Christians are portrayed as people that condemn others, when the real reason we are here is to love God and love others. Even if the people you are loving don't come to Lord, you should continue to love them...no matter what keep loving. Isn't that what God does with us every day? Sorry if this post seemed a little more serious, here something to cheer you up...

William Wilberforce

William Wilberforce was born today, August 24, 1759. He was an English politician, philanthropist, and abolitionist who led the parliamentary campaign against the slave trade.
And for those of you who may recognize his name, not too long ago, there was a movie called Amazing Grace that was based on his life story. It will be coming out on DVD later this year, there isn't a release date yet.

Busy Day

Yesterday, my parents and I went up to Big Bear (more specifically bear valley) to visit the Foor's, they showed us their building where they gather as a church, including the youth center, the offices, the worship center, and right outside was the lake, sweet view btw. The youth center is particularly sweet because kids could come in whenever they wanted to hang out, play on the wii or xbox 360, ping pong, fuse ball, do some homework on computers, watch movies, or eat, and then if they wanted to stay for the youth group that night they would just call their parents and ask.
After that we drove back down the mountain towards Redlands and stopped to see some old friends (along with a 110 lbs dog named charlie), and finally made it to Cuca's! An amazing mexican food place that you walk up to and order the best burritos, tacos, and quesadillas you have ever had in your life. We ordered some specials for my sibs as well and we ate at my bro and sis' house.
We then took a trip to Anaheim (watch The Office on the way there) and saw the Angels play the Blue Jays. Best seats that I have ever sat in for a baseball game, I saw facial expressions on players' faces. You can ask my bro for pictures, but the Angels lost 4-5.

It just gets better...

I will be honest and say that I don't exactly read the books, but the movie series in itself is stunning! I can't wait to see the epic battle scenes in the next movies, hopefully. I know, I know...I really should read the books, but I must ask, would it worth reading the last two books if I haven't read really much of the previous books (dumb question probably).

Growing Up

Did anybody ever have one of these?

In my case it was in my downstairs closet door frame...this is where we measured how tall we were every once in a blue moon (or more)....I am now 5'11" in case you were wondering.

So as you can see, I have had some fun taking photos and whatnot of the towns and cities around here. It took about 6 hours to get to Salinas with the stops for lovely meals at Wendy's and Bathroom Breaks aka BRB's. Once we got there, talk about clean air, traffic-less-ness, and gorgeous agriculture and landscape around the outskirts of town, and only 15-20 min. away from the beach, sweet! The people here have made us feel really welcome, I think I have met almost everyone on staff (or at least it seems like it). I have met the middle school and high school leaders and they are really cool, I will try and get some pictures or videos of them, so you guys can see 'em.
Right now we are at the second of the Leadership Summit 2007 that Willow Creek holds at Chicago but we get to watch it via Satellite. Some of the speakers: Bill Hybels (the pastor at Willow Creek), Carly Fiorina (former CEO of HP), Floyd Flake (Reverend, Congressman, and Professor at Manhattan), and Markus Buckingham (Author and Businessman). Markus was probably the best speaker, he talked about focusing more on our strengths as leaders and as a community because in our world today we tend focus on the weaknesses of things, i.e. F's on the report card, Divorce rates, etc.
I'll try and keep you guys up-to-date, but the Wi-Fi at the church building where the conference is at, lacks speed and signal, but our motel has some free Wi-Fi too, so I will try my best.

The Next Chapter

By Micah Risinger

I don’t want to leave if there ever is a chance
When friendships are closer but I must turn my glance
I don’t see how this happened or where it ever ends
All I know is His love and its power to mend

Why do chapters have to close when new ones begin?
Why give me crumbs in my hunger when I want to dig in?
But who am I to doubt; He who gave me form?
The same Father who in the winter sees that I will stay warm

I forget of His passion and focus on my desire
As he stands there patiently until I am inspired
For His touch is beyond expression, words can’t explain
His embrace has no end, which I can’t keep contained

So why can’t I leave when I know that there’s more
I choose to hold onto gifts I so desperately adore
He gave those to me but anytime can take them back
I lose comfort, but I’m aware; he knows the wisdom I lack

For I am mistaken, I am broken, and unbelievably flawed
But through Jesus I am loved beyond reason by God.
